I want to know and see how many total steps I have for the day. Not just during a walking or running activity, but when I'm just walking around the house, grocery store, etc. Does this watch do this and if so, how do I see my total steps for the day

1. Yes
2. You will have to look at the watch. Or your phone.
Maybe one thing to note, that in Garmin the steps count is steps, not some kind of "activity level". Eg. If you record activities where you don't take steps eg. biking, you won't get any steps from that.
Some think that this is bad, but they are wrong, but if you are one of those, FYI.
But can someone explain where I look, what buttons to press to get total steps? Where is this number found?
Thanks!
You can configure the watchface to show total steps. And if not on the watchface, then you can scroll down to the steps widget.
Do you even have a garnin? I mean... You can put the info on the watchface, then you have it available all the time. You can add a widget, then you can view when you want.
If you play around a bit you already should be able to find it to be honest...
Yes, I have a Garmin - but very new to me. I searched the watch faces the on the Gramin Connect Store, and downloaded to my watch. I'm about to go for a walk and will decide whether to stick with this or perhaps choose another. If I understand correctly, I can also modify or add a step tracker to some watch faces?? Will need to learn how to do that too!
The steps are counted and tracked all the time, no matter if they are currently shown on the actual watch face or not.
Read thoroughly the user manual, you will find all your answers there.
I’m a tech guy, so I may have a bias.
But the Garmin user interface isn’t too hard to understand.
Go to the DCRainmaker review and read them all (the in-depth review and the one for new users).
Also, search for the specific info into the manual.
It’s all there.
You may also find some additional info on youTube, but general doubts like your are hard too answers in the forum.
Did you find the right watchface already to show your step counter on the long way to understand all of Garmin's details?
