Slow performance

Just upgraded to 955 Solar from a 935, overall I’m happy with things, but I’ve been surprised with how slow the watch is at certain things and I’m wondering if it’s typical.

For example, when I go to click on the morning report, it takes approx. 5-6 seconds to load up the data. That doesn’t sound like much much, but it practice it’s feels painfully long.

The same is true when saving activities, it’s takes 5 seconds or so. A first, coming from the 935, I thought the watch was frozen but it always seems to work eventually.

Is this just how this watch is? Or is mine slow?

Thanks

  • Sounds wrong, morning report and activities start about instantly here...

I've had some instances where it would take like 2 seconds for an activity to open but checking now it's not the case and they open right away.

Are you on 11.12 software? Perhaps it's improved with that one

  • That's not right. I've recently gone from a 935 and the watch is definitely not slower. Saving activities (and certainly uploading them via WiFi) is markedly faster on the 955. Try contacting Garmin.

  • For me too! Morning reports takes 5+ seconds. Saving a run (10k, nothing extreme) takes 10+ seconds. it’s disappointing how bad this new firmware is…

  • like the others, one notable upgrade for both my 945LTE and 955 are the speed of activities like saving or loading an activity. they are easily 3x faster than they were on my 935. morning report is also nearly instantaneous for me (maybe 1 second...i certainly never thing about it and would notice too if it took 5-6 seconds)

something is amiss with your watch. hopefully a reset, factory restore, or Garmin swapping devices can help your issue.

  • No slow performance issues here. Mine is instantaneous.

  • Mine is also very slow and its frustrating

1-3s lag from hitting start button to when the run/bike/workout lists pop up. I hate it and have never had this issue from 945 LTE.

  • For what it's worth I bought 2 955 solars and both devices had the same issue. I talked to a rep in SF at the SF marathon event and he also found it on the devices he had at the demo. It's unclear why this is happening across devices. I emailed Garmin but not sure if anyone can address this.

It's not acceptable for me and I'll likely move away from garmin if the lag is not fixed. It feels like I'm using a computer from 1985. No new updates I'm up to date on the firmware.

  • For those with slow performance, have you tried powering down the watch and then turning it back on again.  Sometimes a reboot with release and memory blocks in the system. This can sometimes happen after an update has been applied.

  • yes I've tried every power down up reset method across 2 955 solar devices. I've literally tried to do every combo by searching the forum (some suggesting whether you favorite an activity, etc lots of interesting theories). I'm convinced it's something inherent to the device.

Once the device is "warm" aka if the back light is on, then there is no lag. If I click around, then click the start button there is much less of a lag.

If I'm walking around and don't interact with the watch, and walk onto a treadmill and click start/stop to initiate treadmill running, that's when the lag is present. Very odd

  • For me, the delay from pressing the start button to it showing the menu is about half a second. Do you have many custom apps installed?
