Wahoo TICKR X - show running power on FR255/955

Is there anyone using Tickr X HRM? I would like to know if it able to send and show the running power on new FR (since it has running dynamics) or is it proprietary thing that will only work with Garmin HRMs and foot pod?

Thanks

  • From Garmin's site, it's stated to work only with Garmin HRM or RD pod.

  • According to Wahoo website, the Tickr X follows the ANT+ profile for running dynamics, so in theory it should work, as long as you connect it via ANT+ and not BLE. But I haven't checked it myself.

  • I have both a Tickr X (gen 1) and an HRM Pro. You only get running power using the latter. Running dynamics from the Tickr X isn't accounted for in Garmin Connect. In some areas, Garmin takes the walled garden approach, unfortunately.

  • The gen 1 TickrX does not provide running dynamics over the standard ANT+ profile, while the current TickrX does.

  • I have Tickr X gen 2 and a Fenix 7X running the 9.14 alpha FW. I've just noticed that I do see the running power in the Garmin connect app which I didn't see for my previous runs before the new alpha version. Unfortunately, I can't confirm that the data is coming from the Tickr or is estimated in some way by the app. I also can't verify that the data is accurate since it's the first time that I see running power numbers.

On my next run, I will have to check if I am getting the realtime power on the watch and will report back...

  • Thanks, that's why I wanted to check with someone who has that combination. I prefer that HRM design instead of Garmin's - when the belt goes you have to buy all new, unlike Wahoo or Polar for example which are quite cheaper. My 8 years old trusted H7 now (came with Polar V800) is still going strong and only changed couple of batteries...probably same as number of cheap belts for couple of $...but I am thinking of getting one with running dynamics. I will try to wait couple of months to see if anything new will arrive on the market form the mentioned companies or change in design by Garmin.

  • Unfortunately, I can't confirm that the data is coming from the Tickr or is estimated in some way by the app.

The strap provides running dynamics, and the watch calculates running power based on those running dynamics. There is no other way.

  • As wrist based running power is coming to some Garmins (presumably the 955 since it's on my Fenix 7) it might not be much of an issue.
