Do you have turn by turn navigation with Komoot on FR955?

Hi guys. I mentioned somewhere that I am not getting turn by turn navigation when using Komoot. Tested today. Polar Grit X shows turns, Garmin no. I wanted to retire Polar:)

I use it in offline mode with downloaded routes. If I go for a run or bike I wait 2 seconds till the route loads and it show below the name of the activity.

I get notification that the route was found and course finished, but nothing in between, not a single turn.

I found this on forum for FR245:

"The answer to the problem is very simple and can be found on the Komoot website: "Turn-by-turn navigation arrows: At the moment, no Garmin devices are capable of showing turn-by-turn navigation arrows on the device screen when using the IQ app only. If your device contains maps and is able to recalculate the route, the Tour will be adapted to the Garmin maps. In this case you will see the instruction arrows provided by Garmin." The Forerunner 245 does not have maps. That's it. It does not finally explain why slightly wrong instructions come  up but OK."

Is that true for FR955 also? I think it had shown turns on my first run when I got it. I don't want to reset it again and setup all activities and data fields again.

Komoot was uninstalled then reinstalled, but with no luck.

Another small issue I found out is also Alert/Notification - when it is big (values) it goes a little bit out of bounds, out of display.

I set 1 hour notification, and after 1 hour it notified me in form "1 : 00 : 00" where 1 was partially cut on the left side of the display.

  • You should use BaseCamp or Garmin Explorer to create your tracks with turn-by-turn directions, and forget komoot. Need routes made by other people? Use Wikiloc.

  • Not sure you're still looking into this but I went for a ride yesterday with the 955 and the Edge 530 using a Komoot route and they seem to behave differently. The route was transferred via GC not with the CIQ widget. The 530 was not showing the remaining distance but was recalculating, the 955 was showing the remaining distance but not recalculating. Pretty useless in both cases I would say. It's probably better to plan a route with Garmin Connect...but I've found over the years that the Komoot routes are often "better", i.e. no dirt roads for road biking for instance and no "shortcuts" that just slow you down.

  • Yeah, I got used to Komoot and have a bunch of routes there...coming from Suunto and Polar. I don't know why it doesn't behave the same way on the Garmin, if Komoot widget route selected, why they did it this way. I see no use of Komoot widget on Garmin.

  • It seems the Komoot routes just do not have the "hooks" for the Garmin devices to recalculate the routes properly. That's also a problem for Garmin segments that do not appear as a result.

Also I've noticed that when the Komoot route is transferred via GCM it does not recalculate upon launch of the route, however it does recalculate when it's been transferred via the CIQ widget, this is quite confusing !
