Forerunner 955 Series: Poor HRM Pro Connectivity During Run Activities

Hi there,

I recently bought the Forerunner 955 (FR955) and have noticed that in all my runs, the Garmin HRM Pro connects initially and then drops for most of the run activity. I’ve included the run activities as well as a list of the sensors that I paired. Just to note, I did do all the software updates before using the FR955 and the version for all activities are 10.10.

  • The Garmin HRM Pro had the best connectivity but there was still a large part of the activity where it had connectivity issues

  • For this last activity only, I paired the Stryd foot pod via Bluetooth and it was stable the entire activity without dropping whereas the Garmin HRM Pro had limited activity as per the above run activities

Sensors paired for Above Runs:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Buds (2738)
  2. Stryd footpod with wind detection
  3. Garmin HRM Pro

Cycling Activity Analysis

The same Garmin HRM Pro is stable and has no issues.

Sensors paired for above rides:

  1. Loud Bluetooth Speaker (either Rienok S1 or Jabara 5)
  2. Garmin Vector 3 power pedals
  3. Garmin HRM Pro

Thanks,

  • I have connection issues with FR955 and the HRM Pro since the latest firmware update. The watch loses connection and the watch says the HRM-pro is disabled. Need to manually enable it. Concurrently I have used a Edge for my bike rides and it has no issues at all (both connected via ANT+). Did not see any connection issues before the 11.12 firmware update. I did however also update the HRM pro to the latest firmware 8.80 around the same time. But the problem seem to be with the watch as other devices have no issues.

Even if I enable the HRM-pro and get the question to download HRM data after the training the watch do not seem to sync/download as it should. I have checked this by comparing HRM data between the 955 and the Edge.

  • *UPDATE*

    - 30 days since I created the forum.
    - Garmin representative told me it'll take another 30 days for a garmin HRM Pro to be sent to me due to shortages - no option to send the HRM Pro Plus in its place.
    - I purchased the Garmin HRM Plus, ran the update to 8.8 and the EXACT same issue persisted, only 7 min out of 54 mins captured power and running dynamics
Conclusion - Forerunner 955 Solar (version 11.12) is very buggy and power zones as well as garmin running dynamics don't work as expected when paired with bluetooth headphones and stryd pod

  • I had the HRM Pro and Now the PRO Plus for 5 days. FR955 (Non Solar). FW 11.12 . Haven't noticed any issue with the RD recording my side . Don't use bluetooth headphones or stryd pod though.

  • You would think for $600+ dollars you would be able to connect all the devices it allows i.e. HRM, headphones and stryd pod. They spend more effort on ensuring the HRM can connect to three devices rather than ensuring the FR955 can connect to three ANT+ or/and bluetooth devices. In my case, two are connected to ANT (HRM and stryd) and one to bluetooth (headphones).

  • I experience something similar. My 955 loses connectivity with HRM Pro Plus after a few seconds. Extremely annoying.

  • No issues my side with the HRP-PRO or the HRM-PRO PLUS which I have had for approx 3 weeks

  • So I was able to find a workaround but it's not ideal as I had to disconnect my headphones which means no music during my runs :( Here's the workaround:
    1. Keep the Garmin HRM Pro / Pro Plus paired as ANT+
    2. Pair the Stryd as PWR-Stryd paired as Bluetooth.

Occasionally, the watch will power down halfway through the run but doesn't always do it, though all the running dynamics from the Garmin HRM and Stryd stats show.

Sadly my watch stopped giving me vo2 max updates even though I've had tons of positive performance conditions over the past 3 weeks.

  • You are the only one I know. Most people from my run and cycling group have issues. A lot of them are frustrated and thinking of changing to garmin's competitors. It's a shame because the forerunner 955 has so much potential but it is so buggy - a real bad foot forward that can't be brought back.
