Maps not downloading over Wi-Fi

With a Topoactive map selected and the device plugged in, it just remains at Queued, even after forcing a Wi-Fi sync

If I download them on Garmin Express and then look on the watch, it claims there is an update required (size 0Gb?!)

Note: This worked fine on my now-returned Fenix 7

  • The bloody thing isn't working over here either!!!

I don't want to use Express! I JUST WANT IT TO WORK OVER WIFI

  • I just got my watch a couple of days ago and topographic maps downloaded ok once I plugged the watch into charge. Started downloading 15-20 minutes after plugging in.

It was damn slow, downloading the Australia map (which is tiny compared to some others) took a few hours, but it got there eventually.

Edit: Actually... despite the watch saying it was downloading Australian maps while it was charging, the maps still don't appear to be on there... That is disappointing and I really hope I can get the maps on there soon as I'm doing a lot of trail running at the moment and having maps is somewhat useful.

  • The watch disconnects prematurely when connected over Hotspot wifi. It seems Garmin didn't account to downloading mapsover mobile phones!

  • Mine would only resolve this after syncing automatically while on a charger and wifi, not through the connect app or garmin express

  • Same problem here. Have tried everything, including using wifi (frequently get "Map Sync Failure) and Garmin Express. The map (TopoActive Europe (all or just Central Europe)) ends up on the watch "Queued," but it never ends up on the map list despite the watch being plugged in to an outlet for hours (one time the watch displayed "Downloading Map" for a few hours, but the map never ended up on the watch's map list. Have contacted Garmin support. Fingers crossed.

  • So 8 month after report of the issue I am running into that bug too. That is ridicules.

  • Has anyone managed to resolve this issue? I keep running into it and the 955 won't ever download the map update despite there being plenty of available storage. "Map sync failed" all the time and the download remains queued on the watch.

  • Nope! Garmin simply sux

  • Such a shame. Quite how they prioritise bug fixes is baffling. I'd gladly wait longer for a few new features if they simply implemented properly the functionality advertised from the device's release date!

  • I was unable to download the map I was trying to download (one of the Europe maps), for weeks, while I was in Europe. Support was not helpful (some of the videos they wanted me to submit of what was showing on the watch would have taken a video expert to create). When I returned to the U.S. and was able to select a 2Ghz wifi connection a Europe map was miraculously downloaded onto my 955. Of course, to view the map I would have to be in Europe so we will see if I actually have the map on my watch once I am back in Europe.
