Maps not downloading over Wi-Fi

With a Topoactive map selected and the device plugged in, it just remains at Queued, even after forcing a Wi-Fi sync

If I download them on Garmin Express and then look on the watch, it claims there is an update required (size 0Gb?!)

Note: This worked fine on my now-returned Fenix 7

  • Im having the same problem. Have yopu solved it?

  • No, it still claims there are 0Gb updates available, even though I have the lastest versions downloaded (from Garmin Express)

  • I‘m having the same issue. Did somebody find a way to fix it?

  • I'm seeing the same. The watch claims there are updates, but the Garmin site and Garmin Express both claim the maps are up to date.

  • Hi, so.. I had all the updates and it was not working. I've opened a ticket at Garmin and they told me to update again (but I didn't, because it was already updated). So, I tried once more to download and it worked. How was it: enable wifi, delete the pending map or the actual map, search for the new map, select for download it (at this point it is pending, all this steps was in the 955). Connect to the computer, open Garmin express, select the map again (because it was not marked to download), apply updates.. and it worked.

    Good luck

  • I tried redownloading via Express already, did not help. You just get the update notification again next time.

  • Thanks! This way solved the problem, but it's a complex workaround for such an expensive gadget.

  • Has anyone managed to download/update a map over wifi? I'm on my 3rd charge cycle and have never managed to get to say anything but queued. I separately attempted both updating the NA maps and downloading Japan. I've even emptied the queue and added them while it was connected to the charger at which point it just displays the same will download when plugged in screen and it sits as queued.

Beyond the fact that wifi is allegedly supported so I shouldn't have to use their software I don't have a windows computer so doing so is rather difficult. If they simply offered normal downloads of the files without software I'd have no issue copying them over via usb but they don't so I'm stuck with attempting wifi.

Edit: I'd hope I'm given the benefit of the doubt and the assumption of basic competence but to ward off potential questions, yes I have connected to a wifi network and the wifi sync option does run without errors.

  • I do not think it works. I've used it two times, and although it starts to download when plugged in the charger for like a few minutes, and finishes 2 hours later at 100%, the downloaded map was several gigabyte smaller than the one you get when uploading via Express.

So, I think you'll find that the download starts if you leave it plugged into the charger long enough, but you may still not have a working outcome.
