Golf function not working properly - no gps to give distance on 955

Hello all

Wore my new 955 today and noticed that although it located the course on the first tee via GPS, that it didn't provide any yardage on the course and didn't update automatically to the next hole when completing one.

Coupled with this, probably due to no gps, it didn't seem to register when you hit the ball so gave no last shot measurement.

Oh dear, he we go again with a new hardware release!

Why oh why do we do it?

  • I'm having similar issue. If I'm in the golf app and like to check the time on the home screen by pressing the back button the GPS stops working when I go back into the golf app.  Thus I have to end around and start a new round. The golf app is basically not usable in it's current state. Not to mention it's not utilizing any other touchscreen capabilities from other garment touch screen watches like venue 2...

  • Glad it isn't just me then. I logged this with support and sent them some screenshots. But it is not in a good place.

  • I have this exact same problem.  I'm considering using my 945 for golf until this gets figured out.  It's sort of ridiculous that every new addition of a watch, it's like a year of bugs before it finally starts to work optimally.  I will say, the 945 eventually became a workhorse but it took like 2 years of weird issues before that happened.  Early adopting is probably not worth my time anymore.

  • Absolutely, history repeating itself. On the plus side, I played golf at the weekend and used the 955 with the stableford scoring functionality and it worked a treat. But regressed to my 945 the next day as the risk of going out of the app mid round is too risky as i did it on the 10th the round before. Hopefully I will send mine back in the next day or two and they can get to work on fixing this. However, i suspect the replacement watch will have exactly the same issue if more and more people are reporting it.

  • I tried my new Father's day gift out on the golf course this past Sunday and had the same results.  Were you able to get a fix?   I contacted the Garmin support and was asked to get a software update.  Does anyone know which software update that they were referring to?  I was just given instructions on how to update via the Garmin Express.

  • I'm not aware of any updates yet beyond 10.10. I Plugged my 955 solar into computer last week to get any other updates on Garmin express. Think I downloaded latin American maps, but didn't see any true firmware type updates available...

  • Looks like they are trying to fob you off as the current Garmin line is that this is not a widespread problem and that they don't have a fix in place yet. I have sent my watch back which I assume they will use to try and work out what the issue is. It should be a simple one to fix.

  • OK, the real test now as I have got a new watch from Garmin and I am playing golf this evening. It must be different hardware for this to make a difference as the watch has updated to ver 10.10 this morning which was the same on the previous watch.

  • My workaround was to pause the round then go back into golf and restart it.  GPS starts working again.

  • OK guys, if you want this issue fixed you need to log it with Garmin support and they will RMA you a new watch. This fixed the problem with mine. It appears to be hardware related and not a software bug.
