full disclosure: i bought the 955 Solar thinking that if i got just a smidge more battery endurance, it would be great. but i was also inclined to think that the solar band may draw less attention than a broad black bezel although it notably was no wider than on my 945LTE.
i'm curious if anyone has gotten any significant charging done by solar thus far. i'm not looking for any big reports of battery life gain, but more, how much sun are you getting in real life?
i work an indoor office job for the most part. during my early (7am) run, i seem to get some solar insolation that goes on and off in the 0-70 range (the widget isn't all that useful and i hope Garmin will give us one on par with the Fenix at some point to tell us integrated solar insolation over a day). i suspect it has to do the angle of the sun in the sky relative to my arm position and swing.
the other day i did some work outside of my office reading and sur enough with my left wrist oriented with the watch facing the sky, it stayed pegged at 100% for the half hour i was outside.
i went for a short walk this afternoon, and it didn't seem that the California sun could reliably give me 100% (50k lux?) while walking since my arms are at my side and the screen isn't facing the sun directly.
what have your experiences been?
