Missing F7 functions

I recently returned my Fenix 7 Base and got a 955. There are a few nice features on the F7 that are missing from the 955:

1. When you cover the screen with your palm it returns to the watch face and turns down the screen brightness.

2. Long press on a watch face data field takes you to the widget.

3. Cannot disable touchscreen during sleep

Anybody know if there are plans to bring these to the 955

  • I think there are hardware differences in the touchscreen between the 955 and Fenix series that cause these differences. Another thing missing is the double tap to zoom in the maps screen.

  • i as suspecting the same since i saw in Chase the Summit that the covering the screen with palm didn't work for him. it's a bummer that double tap doesn't zoom on maps. wonder if we can get an official word from Garmin about this maps feature.

  • I have a Fenix 7x and love the versatility of the touch screen, especially being able to swipe and clear messages. It's just not the same experience on the 955, where you have to push a lot more buttons, although the buttons are much more consistent and clicky on my 955, compared to my expensive 7x and the 955 is just so light to wear 24/7.

  • Swiping to clear messages and scrolling to read them does work for me without needing to press any buttons on the 955.

  • Really, ok, I must have a different issue, as swiping doesn't work and I have to click the Button next to the x to clear the message.

  • Can I just check, when you say swiping to clear messages, can you swipe and delete a message from the notification widget, by using the touch screen?

  • i can't swipe and delete a message either. i need to use the "up button" to delete it (X).

but i am grateful for using touch to open messages. the 955 has the same bug as the 945LTE where it takes multiple button pushes to open a message if there are more than 1 in the list.

  • Phew, thanks for confirming! I have just factory reset my watch thinking I might have a fault. I do miss that feature, as it is so quick to swipe and delete notifications on the 7x, but one Button press is not a big issue. Would be great though for Garmin to standardise touch screen functionality.

  • I see what you mean. I don't really use the notifications widget, so don't care about deleting the notifications. To be clear, simply swiping away the notification to make it go away works, but looks like it is not deleted from the Notifications widget when you do that (vs clearing it using the buttons).

  • Yep, rather annoying that they can't get their "story" straight across teams ! Found this good YT video that compares both : https://youtu.be/K3evf59dv1Y

Double-tap on map, no "sleep" quick setting, no "long press down", etc...
