Backlight settings bug...

surprised to see the same bug that was there originally with the 945LTE last year.

no matter what I set key/touch backlight settings to be (including off, after sunset), the backlight always comes on with key press or screen touch.

I assume others can confirm this is true with their watches as well?

  • just got the 955. when i set up the watch manually, gesture detection works as advertised. the moment i pair it to my phone, backlight no longer activates when i raise my wrist.

i’ve reset my watch several times now, and every time it works up until i pair it with my phone. what’s happening?

  • Hi I have just gotten my FR 955 and here it works - My phone is a IPhone XS, and firmware is latest version. What phone are you using?

  • iphone 13 max. latest firmware for both.

  • I must be a setup that you are missing on your watch. If you turn off the phone and reboot the watch Does the gesture then work when phone is off?

  • no once i pair that’s it. gesture is broken.

  • I have looked “around” and no-one else have reported this as an error, and that made me guess that is a setting issue.

If it is not fixed when next FW is released then you should report it.

  • i found out a related discussion in the venu forums years ago where gesture didn’t work, with one suggestion being to reset the watch, don’t sync, and set up manually. that’s how i figured out that pairing was the issue.

  • A solution to follow.

I had the same problem with the Forerunner 955. I say "had" because I figure how to make it work.

The problem is the pairing with the phone, as people have outlined here. It's a software bug that Garmin needs to fix (Garmin devs, it's a real bug).

This is the solution I found:

    - Reset your phone

    - Don't pair yet

    - Go to setting and turn off Gesture for General Use

    - Pair the phone now

    - Go to settings again, and turn on Gesture for General Use

    Everything works as expected.

  • Reposting a kind of workaround to make this work.
