Backlight settings bug...

Just tried turning the backlight off under General Use/Keys & Touch and it appears to work correctly. It’s not turning on for me for button presses, but it is turning on for gestures (unless I turn that off too). 

thanks for checking. i explored more and this is what triggers it: hitting the down button that brings up the HR widget/glances. same happens if i swipe the screen to do the same thing. this was the same thing that happened with the 945LTE when it was released.

Just tried that specific task and it still appears to work correctly. I may be missing something...

How are you finding the screen otherwise? Are you satisfied with the clarity and contrast of the solar screen? I always used the backlight gesture with my old F6 titanium so this screen appears to be in the same ballpark w/r/t indoor visibility. I occasionally hit some glare while running outdoors but a small angle adjustment takes care of it.

interesting. i can make the backlight trigger when i scroll to either the heart rate or Vo2max widget/glances. this, if i recall correctly is similar to what i saw on the first firmwares with the 945LTE. i have sent an email to Garmin support and hopefully they will open a ticket for me.

screen: thanks for asking -- yes, i'm satisfied enough. if i look real close, i would say that my 945LTE is marginally clearer indoors, but nothing really problematic. moreover, the extra size of digits/info going from 1.2" to 1.3" more than makes up for it. my preference is to only have gesture backlight for hours after sunset as that has worked well for me with both my 935 and 945LTE previously.  

i think i understand that glare you speak of. i took an early morning run today and i suspect the main issue is the outer solar ring acts like a mirror and our eyes are drawn to it. i'm hoping i'll just get used to it. but again, setting up a similar data screen to what i had on the 1.2" screen gives me a boost in readability.

botton line, the screen is definitely good enough for my uses. the backlight is excellent too -- i like having the ability for it to be at 5% during sleeping hours (i use 20% otherwise).

Same on the 255, only with steps, body battery and HR widget

i know it was wonky for some on the 945LTE...what kind of test do you need run? i only used it a couple of times to check on battery consumption but in the end chose to use disable bluetooth since Airplane also disabled my external HR sensor so that if i went for a run, i would need to disable the airplane mode so it would recognize my chest strap. the couple times i used airplane, this worked. and i think it was disconnected from my phone because it wouldn't sync my activity until i disabled it. (i never used wifi in order to save battery and because BT syncing worked well enough for my needs)

I noticed some weird backlight behaviour when in Do Not Disturb / Sleep mode. Like you said, the Key/Touch setting doesn't influence this behaviour. 

What happens is that on a swipe down to the glaces it stays off, but if you then swipe across, back to the watch face, it comes on.

I'm wondering if it's a conflict between DND and Sleep. My understanding is that DND disables the backlight. However, in sleep mode you can configure the backlight behaviour. On my watch I have DND set during sleep hours.

I turned off all backlight on key press, gestures etc. I am getting the same thing, except only when I scroll down from the watchface. Subsequent scrolls after turning off the backlight do not turn on the backlight unless it times out or if I drill down to a widget and come back.

If I scroll up from watchface, it does not turn on at all, even when drilling into a widget and coming back. It seems to work as it should.
