Is Garmin ever going to get the Forerunner buttons consistently tactile?

So: very subjective survey for those of you who are on the bleeding edge with me and have recently gotten a 955: how are your buttons?

mine are ok. i'll give them a "B." not mushy, but not a smooth simple click like i had on my 935. my first 945LTE was awful...one mushy button, another one that triple clicked (for lack of better description), another one that double clicked, 2 that felt great. my 2nd 945LTE was better...probably a B+/A- .... 3 out of 5 buttons excellent, 2 good.

my 955 Solar: an inconsistent mix of button feel. nothing awful but certainly my complaint lives on with all of the 900 watches i've used in the past 5+ years...not consistent and not what i would hope for in a $600 watch.

but i probably won't complain/exchange unless i hear regularly that people are getting excellent units. i'm just surprised after all these years, Garmin hasn't improved in this area.

i guess regardless of feel, they work so that's what they would say is important.

  • I had same opinion till last week. Now I'm on F7 standard and I visited authorized Garmin store last week. I want to try FR955. I thought they give me a dummy of 955 because of the weight. I realized, that the F7 is very heavy, 955 fits perfectly on my smaller wrist. But the buttons feeling on 955 is catastrophic. It's like cheap Chinese crap. I was considering the change F7 for 955 because of much better GPS, but I couldn't stand the buttons. Now I bought one year old FR55 for a while, because I returned the F7 (bad pixel) and the buttons are totally broken. No click, very mushy like always pressed down. When I get my F7 back, I'll return the 55 too and I will not ever wonder about 955. It's such a shame, that the buttons are so big problem on top running model.

  • 955 has a touchscreen so I could care less on the buttons.

I had the 945 for 3 years. The buttons feel was not perfect too but good thing they work.

  • I'm not sure I understand this thread. I have never thought about the buttons, they just work.

  • I've had a good 10 Garmin "watches" since 2003 and the the first one that had "button problems" was the FR935 but I found that pushing in the buttons forcefully a few times made them click again normally for a while...FF to the 955 and that technique no longer works, the left middle one sticks most of the time now and the bottom left one clicks but makes a rather loud "noise". Appalling !

I've moved back to the Venu 2 whose buttons are fine and is much nicer to look at !

  • They had to cut the cost/price down from the F7 somewhere.Joy

  • The Epix 2 I briefly had also had problem buttons...

Anyway I'm back on the Venu 2, problem sorted!

  • New 965 owner here and the down/music button has the camera shutter double click behavior. I have to remember to put a little extra force to reach the second click or nothing happens. Worried about longevity, has anyone had a button fail or get worse to the point of unusable?

  • I’d give my buttons an A-/B+. They’re all the same (which hasn’t always been the case) but have a little more travel to get to the “click” than my F6 titanium did (which has been the only perfect Garmin I’ve owned).  Hubspot partner agency
