Battery differences between 955 and F7

Is there any explanation why the battery is so different between the 955 and F7?

Ignoring solar, the 955 while almost exactly the same size as the 47mm F7 is rated at 15 days for basic smartwatch and 18 on the F7. GPS is 42 hours on 955 and 57 hours on F7.

Any ideas why?

  • i can only guess that the battery is slightly smaller. yet as a math guy, i note that the estimates aren't consistently the same percentage of one another: 15/18 = 83%, 42/57 = 74%  ... that's what i find more puzzling that the less range for the 955

then again, one of my biggest disappointments was the 945LTE which had the same spec as my 935 for smartwatch battery life, but in real life, it's significantly less for the same exact settings/watch face.

  • I am also guessing smaller battery. Probably wasn't done for size reasons, but rather for weight reasons - people who choose the 9X5 over the equivalent Fenix tend to do so because of the weight difference, so having a slightly smaller battery further widens the delta between 955 and F7, whilst still retaining pretty good battery life.

I think there's less reason for the average 9X5 user to have extremely long battery life than there is for the average Fenix user. We're talking totally different market segments - "sports and fitness" versus "outdoor recreation"
