Deep Sleep - Why is it such an issue with Garmin

Anyone else having terrible results with the Sleep function on their watch?

I use a Forerunner 965.  I consistantly get 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep.  I get 1.5-1.45 hours of REM but ZERO Deep Sleep resulting in a sleep score in the 60's.

It wasn't too bad a problem earlier but lately, I seem to be getting 5 mins max and most nights ZERO Deep Sleep.  It's annoying when I have AI training apps trying to determine how well rested I am for training analytics.  Now Garmin wants us to buy their AI training analytics.  How can we honestly think this is a good feature if the sleep and HRV data is garbage?  Garbage in gives Garbage out.

  • i found results can vary a great deal between different garmin watch models including the 945... different sensors. different technology...

the only way to accurately measure sleep is in a lab covering your scalp with sensors. the watch is just guessing...   it cant measure sleep that accurately from your wrist... my watch says i've had a solid nights sleep and doesnt register that i may have been awake for hours... as long as I'm lying still, it registers it as sleep.... and thats even with a newer model than the 945. plus garmin arent putting out frequent software updates any more for the 945, they focus on the newer models... .

  • Yes, but it further emphazes my point.  Garmin uses these maxtrics heavily for your "readiness" and "fitness" for workout suggestions and whatnot.  If they are going to rely on them so much, they should work on improving them.  Sleep labs are for medical reasons. and nothing to do with Garmin assessments of fitness, tiredness and readiness for training.
