Garmin Forerunner 945 connects to Android phone via Bluetooth but Garmin Connect won't discover it.

I recently got a replacement 945 after my old watch face was delaminating. When trying to pair, the Garmin connect app won't discover the watch. When I go to the "Pair phone" option on the watch, I can discover and connect to the watch in my phone's Bluetooth settings, then the watch displays a 6 digit code to connect. After I enter this, the watch displays the message "Download Garmin Connect Mobile for full connected experience"

I have the latest version of Garmin Connect, when I go to Add Devices, it won't find the watch. The Connect app will tell me to choose which device and once I select Forerunner 945 it still does not recognize it.

Other steps I've tried:

  • pairing directly through the app before my phone's bluetooth settings and no luck there.
  • Turning off and on phone's bluetooth
  • Closing and reopening the Garmin connect app.
  • The watch should not be paired with bluetooth settings in the phone. Everythingnis handled by the Connect app. Make sure it is removed from bluetooth settings in the phone. Then start the pairing on the watch and add the watch to the app.

Make sure you allow location permission for the app at all times.
