pool jogging

What is the best activity setting for indoor pool jogging?  Swimming and running activity settings don't seem to provide correct or usable data.

  • Update:  This is the reply from Garmin:  "We do not have a specific profile for that as you know.  The best profile would be the Treadmill profile as it uses the accelerometer to determine distance, pace, etc...  You will need to swing your arms as you would running for the accuracy to improve and the arms would need to be above the water.  That would be the profile that would match the most but may still have accuracy issues as it is not meant for the pool"
  • Cardio. The watch can't measure the distance for pool jogging. You will get HR and time. Count the lengths and add the distance manually if you want that data in the activity.

  • thank you.  Have you found the wrist measurement for HR accurate in the pool?

  • I haven't checked HR in the pool for accuracy so I have no idea.

  • could also just log it as a treadmill or indoor track which then at least will credit that time/effort to the correct sport per say.  Plus record cadence and some semblance of virtual distance (could edit to reflect your effort... if  run in 30min at 140bpm is usually 3miles... and you do 30min at 140bpm in pool... set it to 3miles).  Good thing also about recording it that way as the .fit file will have the running based data... even if you set it to pool or cardio or other later on GC, don't think it will log cadence or distance if you log as Cardio and then decide to credit it as a run later.

It is very odd to me they have RC/Drone.... ATV.... Hunting....Driving.... 'offshore grinding'?!  .... but NOT Aqua/Pool Jogging

  • Good advice.  Thanks Nick.
