I find this a peristent problem. Garmin even changed the watch but the issue clearly lies with the software. The watch restarts fine in any other mode but Hike.

yeah for slower activities like walking/hiking it can be tricky to do autopause, the setting appears to just be above/below a certain MPH... however for something like walk/hike...it should be a certain MPH over a longer period of time, not just your instant/live speed. because with twist and turns and uphill... might never get above the speed...but clearly if you looked at the data you'd say "oh yeah, clearly not paused"... programmers just haven't really accounted for the activities real use case I guess.
