[fixed / workaround] Garmin Coach not available on 945

1. Go to connect.garmin.com/modern
2. Pick a Training plan "Garmin Coach 10k" / "Run with Timed goal"
3. Sync web to mobile then to watch
4. Open mobile pick "Training & Planning" / "Training Plans"
5. Pick "Benchmark Run" then click "Send to Device" icon
6. Sync web to mobile then to watch
6. On watch Pick "Garmin Coach" (no workouts)
7. On watch Pick "Calendar" (no workouts)
8. On watch Pick "Workouts" (nothing labeled Benchmark)
9. No mention of coach in manual

OK... sure I'm doing it wrong... but how is it supposed to be done right?

  • Fixed it.

Appears to be a timezone bug in the 945 firmware.  My timezone is UTC -6hr, so anything after 6pm will be the following day in UTC.  So since I only run at night (blazing hot here) I usually start my runs at 9pm.  I had originally set the coach up yesterday and when I checked in the coach widget on my phone all looked good.  When I checked again at 9pm, there were no pending activities listed.

I'd bet that from 6pm to midnight in my timezone, the coach widget is bugged out.  The fix (for me) was to move the activity to tomorrow, then all of the sudden the activity shows up again as a future activity in my coach widget on my watch.  Since you can perform future activities, I simply selected it and did my run.

If there is a github or gitlab repo, I'll submit a bug-report, but other than that, I don't think there is much else I can do, but caution other 945 users not to try to start coach in the evenings in North America.
