Cannot pair with phone anymore

I hope you might be able to help. My 945 has been working fine for years, and my partner currently uses it with her Android phone. All well for a long time. This week she noticed the phone with a line icon and it was not connecting with the phone via BT. We did the usual. Reboot watch, phone, Bluetooth reset on phone, clear cache etc. We then did a factory reset on the watch and still we cannot pair to the phone. Basically when we try to pair, it asks for the code, and sometimes it fails straight away, other times, you enter the code and it fails while typing it and other times you enter the code and then it fails to pair. I’ve also tried pairing to an iPhone and have same problem. So I do not think it is the phones. 

Is it possible to somehow reload the watch firmware as I am sure it needs a “deep” reset. I know you used to be able to copy firmware with android file transfer to the watch and it would install. 

Or any ideas when we can try. It is just too costly to replace at the moment.
