Training Status in Garmin Connect with EDGE 840

Hello, after adding EDGE 840 to Garmin connect I have no more access to Training Status from 945, it's substituted with status from 840. But 945 is set as main device.

TrueUp is active on both devices. To update current status I have to switch on EDGE everyday.

Is it possible to fix that?

  • There have been some changes when the primary training device and training status 2.0 were added that probably will not work perfectly together with older devices.

  • Same problem for me with FR945 and EDGE 1040, Garmin is making fun of us with GPS with programmed software obsolescences and their firmware bugs which never end with updates...

  • Hi!

I think i know where your problem starts!

As i understand, garmin primary device (your 840) calculates unified training status on three occasions.

    1. when the device is turned on, first time on a day

    2. When activity is recorded on that primary device.

    3. when activity is synced from other device the SAME DAY it was recorded on this device

The SAME DAY is very important, because if you do activity on non primary and don't sync it to primary the same day, then when you turn on primary next day it just calculates training status and load based on activities that he has access to up to that point in time (before any sync is done), and creates training status which is carved in stone for that point in time (can not be changed until next calculation). After calculation is done it updates on Garmin Connect and make it a default status and load, overwriting everything a non primary had uploaded meanwhile.

That is why you suddenly lost all of the load.

Solution is simply to do often sync between both device (at least at the end of each day).

After 4 weeks, your load imbalance should be cleared, and loads should be in sync on both devices.

Hope it helps, and please, someone correct me if i misunderstood all of that that and wrote something wrong.

  • Please Garmin Team, I have a forerunner 945 and an edge 1040. How can I get the unified training status to reflect (overide) on the 945  after all these syncs ?

  • i have the same exatly problem but with FR745 and edge 840

  • I have 945 and 840. I got the 840 recently during a bike touring trip in Japanbecause my watch only have EU maps and was very disappointed with the 840 Maps being non-existent outside of the city in Japan. Now I am home and want to run I've realized my data is a mess because of this. I might sell the 840 but bought it new so it would be a big loss. Please Fix this stuff Garmin, I feel worse off after giving you more money!!!!

  • Each device usually only comes with the maps for the region it is bought in. Check in Garmin Express if you can install other maps.

You can always use 3rd party maps. Many users do that even if they got maps from Garmin since they can be more detailed.

  • My attempts to get free maps for the watch failed the day we were leaving for the trip. In fact i am installing them right now to test but our cycling trip is finished.

My frustrastion was that the Japan maps on my Japanese bought 840 were very bad. Outside of the cities, often where it mattered most, i was just tracing the line from my course download, just as i could have been on my watch. So i was annoyed that they sold a product which such incomplete maps.

Anyway, back to the topic of this form, i really want them to fix this Training load issue Disappointed

  • Did you update the maps on the 840 to the latest ones?

  • I did yesterday, before that I was mid-tour without a laptop. On my more local ride yesterday everything was good, so perhaps the regions where i had issues are fixed now too. I was just very disappointed after dishing out so much money to help on my tour, when it wasn't actually very helpful.
