945 tips and tricks for MAF method training?

I train using the MAF method from. Dr. Maffetone.

Best I could get my 945 to help with is to set HR alerts when my pulse is too high or too low.

Is there anything else my 945 can help me with?

For example, MAF calls for a walking warm up and cool down. I just add those to my run session. Otherwise I'd be pushing a lot of buttons instead of enjoying my session.

For the same reason I ultimately turned low HR alert off completely because I was tired of turning it on again after every warm up and off again before every cool down.

I'm just wondering if people using MAF have found neater tricks with the 945.

Thx!

  • I'll answer myself: definitely look into building workouts..

  • I have found that for setting up a training workout on the website works very well.  If you have a planned warmup or HR rampup time planned, just program it that way either by time or miles.  Or in my case sometimes I will do after lap button press to make it customizable on the fly.  (or just make it longer distance...and can always press lap if you want to exit warmup).  During all laps I will do a 'custom HR range' and set the warmup for something like 100-135bpm (if target is around 140bpm for work portion) and then after warmup i will do a few miles at a range of 120-135bpm... then the majority at 130-143bpm.  If a long run I will have maybe the last few miles at a bit higher to account for some HR drift/heat.  130-148bpm.   Works welll and easy to just skip the final few laps if it is a shorter run to exit out to a cooldown section if desired (for me a cooldown isn't really that needed for zn1 or zn2 training) so i usually ommit having a cooldown section in the workout.

  • Just what I did :) loved it. Probably never had a more accurate MAF run.

My only wish is that the numbers on the workout screen were printed BIGGER. So much room on the 945 display yet the font of the three fields are tiny.
