Altimeter inaccurate after Update to v12.1?

Does anyone else also have altimeter/barometer issues since update to v12.1 or is it just an coincidence that my altimeter starts dying right now?
Since the update, my altimeter shows slow but constants up- or down-shifts over several hours (+-40m over 4 h) when I'm not moving (working on a desk or sleeping). Tried calibration a couple of times, but several minutes afterwards, it slowly starts shifting again. Also during activities the elevations on my really flat home course are suddenly off. They used to only vary by around +-5m on fixed points around the course. Now variation is in the range of +-15m. Not too bad but still not as accurate as it used to be and it gets more inaccurate the longer the activity is.

Does anyone else recognize the same behaviour after the update?

  • Are you also seeing random and weird temperature fluctuations on activities?  That is where is see issues usually, stop to use the restroom on a run or take pictures and then when restarting it will show a large difference in elevation right at that spot (often 30+ft change during pause) I haven't seen anything bad or weird otherwise.

Although as I check this morning my altimeter screen shows 1250ft... but elevation here is more like 900ft according to my recent runs.

  • No, I haven't seen something like that. But I also hardly stop during activities.

But yes, you are right. There seems to be a correlation between temperature changes of the watch and the altitude reading. As I have the impression that the temperature reading now also varies quite a lot outside of activities, that could be the reason for the changes in altitude even if one is not moving at all.

If I put my watch aside, the altitude increases while the temperature decreases. When I put it on again after some time, the temperature again increases while the altitude decreases.

What I also observed is, when I go outside for activities where it is colder, the watch correctly calibrates the height at the beginning of the run. As the temperature of the watch then quickly decreases, the elevation increases. When the watch stays colder for some time, the elevation levels of and starts decreasing again but never reaches the actual height.

I thought that the altimeter has a temperature sensor to account for these changes?

Have you observed that behavior before or just now after the 12.1 update?

  • I am having the same issues.  Its as if I climb mountains all day according to the floors climbed when in reality I am sitting at a computer.  As soon as I downloaded the update this started.

  • I hit the same issue with my Forerunner 745. Elevation changes up and down even the the watch is on the table alone.

  • Hello,

I am having the same problem since the update. When I run on relatively flat courses, the elevation is completely wrong. However, I did a run with a little bit of elevation change, about 300 meters, and it looked good (comparing with other people with fenix 6).

I recently installed the beta update as it suggested fixing the altimeter problem. However, no positive changes since then.

  • Same problem here... Still no answer
