Hiit Vs Run results

I recoded the exact same activity (hill sprints - same hill, distance, reps) four times - 2x in HIIT and twice in run.

The two settings record radically different results. Run mode shows high anerobic activity whist HIIT records it as tempo with a oddly low HR.

What gives?

  • Are you using the optical HR sensor or a HR strap?  I have seen note of cross country ski also recording heart rate poorly!  Likely some sort of algorithm has been improved for running vs other activity... or a firmware update that never go updated on some of the other activity types.

Do you have your HR zones setup the same for running vs Other ?  that could do it if you have a different max HR setup

BUT - if your heart rate didn't record well on an activity , then the Training Load , Training Effect , Benefit, Recovery Time... will be messed up!!
