945 with HRM pro chest strap inaccurate heart rate while roller skiing

Has anyone else had really low heart rate readings while rollerskiing while wearing the Forerunner 945 WITH the HRM Pro chest strap? I have seen many threads that say any type of xc skiing - roller or snow - with only the wrist based HRM will provide too low heart rate readings. But I always wear my chest strap for activities.

Maybe my heart rate is really only 80-90bpm, but I often get it up to 100 just walking at a decent pace not breathing hard. With rollerskiing, I'm moving much faster, I'm moving more muscles and I'm using my arms a lot to push off the ground with my poles.

I tried using the xc ski classic activity and then tried just manually entering roller skiing and adding it as an activity. My heart rate was slightly more accurate i.e. higher, when I recorded it under the xc skiing classic, activity.

Any experience with this or thoughts? Thanks, Evan

  • I’ve used the same configuration (FR945, HRM pro, XC Skiing activity - Skate or Classic) but have not had any issues.

  • I’ve used the same configuration (FR945, HRM Pro, XC Skiing activity - Skate or Classic as a substitute for roller skiing) but have not had any issues. I did have a problem with running intervals this summer where the HRM Pro did not show any HR increase for the hard intervals for some unknown reason. I reverted back to an older HRM strap and replaced the battery on the Pro. Since then it seems to be fine for roller skiing and now with snow skiing.
