The pace on a Garmin-suggested workout screen does not match the pace on the data screen used in the same workout

My pace in a Garmin Recommended Workout doesn't match the pace in my set data screen. Also, the pace of the recommended workout does not respond well to changes in the actual pace (when accelerating, the watch shows a slower pace, when stopped, the watch shows the presence of a pace). The tempo on the data screen responds adequately to changes in the actual tempo. The first run was with Stryd. The watch was set to receive pace and distance data from Stryd. That is, no GPS drift should have been present. I then turned off the Stryd data and restarted the same workout. In all cases, the pace on the Garmin workout screen and the pace on the overall data screen were different. The tempo on the shared screen almost immediately slowed down when stepping and went to 0 when stopped. The pace on the suggested workout screen slowed down more slowly and did not go to 0 for a long time after stopping. Although the watch received data from the GPS all the time. What could be the reason?

  • Its likely that the pace you are seeing in the workout screen is average lap pace whereas the pace you are seeing on your set data screen is current live pace. This is where the Forerunner and Fenix products differ. Duwing a workout the Forerunner series shows average lap pace whereas the Fenix series shows current live pace. this can't be change as far as I am aware.

  • Yes, thank you, this is true, I guessed it and checked it in training yesterday !!!

  • I'm wearing a Fenix 6X and experiencing the same issue where the workout screen pace is different than other data screens where I have a pace display. It appears that Fenix and Forerunner both experience this issue. From what I've seen from several other threads is that the best way to deal with this is just to avoid the workout screen all together unless you're referencing time/distance left for particular parts of the workout. Hope this is helpful as I've been combing many other threads about this issue.

  • With the Forerunner 945 LTE, there are no such problems.
