Reinstall maps on Forerunner 945 (TopoActive Europe)

I just tried to update the maps on my Garmin Forerunner 945 via Garmin Express to Topoactive Europe 2021.20 that were shown as available.

The update failed several times and it's just not updating them. The old maps have been erased from the watch though as the Garmin folder now has only 81 MB space occupied, before the update it was 14,x GB.

How do I reinstall the maps or at least the old maps? There were similar problems last year (mentioning the new maps were "too big") but my Garmin folder now has 81 MB only and nothing else...I don't even have any music or anything on it.

Any ideas?

    Have hoy checked if your software is updated? The watch and Garmin Express too.

    Both are the latest versions, yes. That's the first thing I am checking in such cases. The watch is being updated automatically anyway and also Garmin Express is reporting updates when available.

    I did several tests on a separate laptop with a fresh install of Garmin Express - several attempts to install the new maps failed again at the copy maps stage - it copied until 66% or so and then I could see weird .NET exceptions in the logs (C:\Program Data\Garmin\Logs\).

    I then gave up on this laptop and went back to my regular computer. And surprise, this time it copied all maps without any errors and everything is fine and up-to-date. I don't have to understand this but the software appears to be quite tricky.
