Garmin Forerunner 945 software update - sleep tracking

Does anybody know whether the Garmin Forerunner 945 (NOT LTE) will receive the new update including the updated sleep tracking?

I received an email from Garmin on wednesday saying the update was for the Garmin Forerunner 745 and 945. I think Garmin knows which watch I have but maybe they are sending it to all Forerunner 945 users although only the 945 LTE will get this update?

11.10 is not the update they are referring to I guess. I'm already on that version.

  • Which updated sleep tracking are you referring to? I can't find anything mentioned about it. What did the mail say?

For 945 LTE I only see "- Added Sleep Insights feature" which doesn't affect the tracking.

The Advanced Sleep Monitoring (ASM) is already on those watches: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=qvzNMwxuTb9NxZ6Ce2a9z9

  • Based on https://www8.garmin.com/wearables/PDF/WearablesSoftwareUpdate/2022/August2022.pdf

there will be an update for the FR945 LTE incorportating HRV measurements during sleep to improve recovery time predictions. This is scheduled for August so most likely already released or on the verge.

There is no improvement to sleep detection mentioned, neither there is anything available in the betas. The (new) Firstbeat sleep metrics have already been implemented and are available.

  • The update is not for 945. The update does not contain anything that affects sleep tracking. They added "Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Status." or "Overnight HRV Status feature." depending on which release notes you check.

That feature is not yet added to 945 LTE. Not even in an alpha or beta release yet.

945 seems to be missing out on all added features now.

  • The email I received on Wednesday is localized (German) - I need to check this evening as it's only on my computer. It mentions three new features in the upcoming update and does not say it was for 945 LTE only. Just curious whether the standard 945 is also going to get that update later. I mean the LTE version just has LTE on top, not really a reason to prioritize it when it comes to new features.

  • I mean the LTE version just has LTE on top

From what I can see the software for 945 LTE is different from the 945. It might be a fork from the original 945 software, but now it lives its own life and the new features are not merged into the 945 software.

945 and 245 got the same software. They are released at the same time with the same features.

  • Ok, so then the question is still, why is Garmin sending me an email about new functions if I don't get them...they know which device I registered as that is the only one I have. The email says my "Forerunner 945" must have at least software version 9.60 to get the update - no mention of FR 945 LTE at all in this email.

The subject is "New features for your Forerunner" and it's listing the three new functions extended running/walking detection, extended workouts (showing the utilized muscles etc.) and the sleep tracking (extended restlessness detection).

The URL to the online version of this email contains something regarding EMEA (EMEA-FIT-MOMT-17007-Forerunner) so this appears to be specific to the European Union.

  • I have no idea since I don't get any emails. What is the URL?

  • I checked the information and I don't see anything we don't already have in the watch and in Garmin Connect. The part about Sleep analysis is for Garmin Connect.

  • Don't ask me why they are sending this weeks after the last update.
