945 Battery Drain

I am getting about 10% battery usage per 90 minutes of exercise; GLOSNASS on, no pulsox, no music.   At this rate I would only see roughly 10 hours of life, this is huge gap from the 30+ hours on Garmin's website.  I contacted tech support and was told this was normal.  If this is normal how can you claim 30+ hrs of battery in GPS mode?  Anyone else getting better battery consumption?

  • That's 30 plus hours when using just the GPS, not GPS and GLOSNASS. 10 hours probably is not too far fetched. Have you reset it lately?

  • Did a hard reset today.  Was going to use it on a 17 mile hike, probably taking 12 hours.  At this rate the battery won't survive the hike.  Very disappointed with the battery life.

Which if my math is correct would get around 15 hours - 10x90=900mins = 15h. Note also that Garmin specs always say 'Up to' as there are many factors that can reduce the usage. To get close to the possible maximum it's necessary to turn off or minimise any settings that can be adjusted and avoid using anything other than a simple screen with the basic information you need.

Either way, even with your reported usage you should have enough for a 12 hour hike and some.

  • With navigation and map visible I get ~10 hours.

Without navigation I get ~25 hours. I can probably get a few more hours by adjusting some settings and pressing the buttons fewer times.
