No heart rate data for a time period

I wear my Forerunner 945 everytime except for a few minutes when I take a shower or when I charge it. I suddenly didn't have a heart rate record between July 9, 12 midnight and July 10, 6PM. I don't know why it happened.

- I wear my watch the same way. If it became lose, why only now and why at exactly 12 midnight did it stop recording heart rate?

- My watch face is recording my heart rate and I'm 100% sure that the watch is measure my heart rate but it somehow doesn't save it when I sync it.

- I tried syncing my watch to my phone, connecting my watch to my laptop and syncing with garmin express, my watch has the latest software.

PS: the customer support I contacted is clueless. He didn't give a definitive reason and asked me to do a factory reset and lose all my data. It feels like a sledgehammer solution to an otherwise simple problem.

  • a soft reset is a good fix for most all issues, highly recommended after firmware updates as well.

procedure is press and hold upper left light button... ignore emergency warning, keep holding.... until screen goes black/off.  Release, and in a moment or two press light button to turn back on.  Time will be off likely until sync or gps lock.

I have seen this issue but often just for moments usually overnight.  I think if it doesn't get a heart rate detection or movement it thinks watch is not being worn, turning off HR sensor until movement.  Could look at sleep movement on that night to see if there is a correlation of movement and HR on?

How do you know it recorded it during those periods? Looked at graph on watch and it showed it?  (at midnight???)   Mine only shows HR graph for the last 4hrs on my watch (shows body battery since midnight... so that could shed light also)

  • I tried a lot of things. I did the soft reset you mentioned, removed the device and added it back in Garmin connect, etc. but my heart rate record is missing on July 10.

My heart rate is missing between July 9, 12 midnight up to July 10, 6 PM. I know my watch was recording during July 10, 11 AM to 1 PM because I was doing some scary activities and I looked at my watch and my heart was racing. I was on a high platform and I'm afraid of heights.

It's not related to sleeping and movement because my watch captured my sleeping period between July 10, 2AM to 9AM. Outside those times, I'm definitely moving.

The watch face I'm using (data lover) also shows a graph of my heart rate for the last 4 hours so I know the watch was recording it. No matter how many times I synced, I still have a gap on the heart rate.

  • Hi  OnlyTwo,

My Garmin/MONITOR folder is empty. I even showed the hidden files but it is empty.

  • Hi OnlyTwo,

Do you think it could be caused by a Connect IQ watchface? I am using "data lover" watchface. Is it interfering with recording and syncing of the heart rate information? I'll use a stock watchface then if the Connect IQ watchface is problematic.

  • The IQ watchface is the only thing that changed in the last month. My updates are up to date. Let's see how it goes with a stock watchface. Thanks!

  • I have been using DataLover watchface pretty much since I got the watch more than 2 years ago... never had an issue.  Could possible just uninstall it, soft reset, and then reinstall if somehow it was suspected to be involved in the issue.

  • True. It might just have been a coincidence that it happened while using data lover watchface. I love this watchface.
