Swim lanes aren’t counted correctly in 50 meters pool

Hello,
since a few years I‘m using the Forerunner 945 which normally works well.
But there is a problem with swimming.
Lately, I used the Forerunner on 25 meter lane in an indoor swimming pool and the lanes were counted correctly (even with a not very correct turn).
Motivated by this, I took the watch to my preferred outdoor pool with a lane of 50 meters which causes the following problem: Approx. in the middle of the lane the watch counts 1 lane which leads to a count of approx. 2 lanes per lane (I set the pool size the 50 meters of course). I tested this in another pool with a lane length of 50 meters. Same behaviour.
I did some resets of the watch. The whole watch as well as only the swimming settings. I also tried both arms.
Swimming style is freestyle. Not the very best technique but also not the worst.
For testing purposes I took my Apple watch 7 in to the same pool. The lanes were counted correctly.
Now I‘m a bit helpless. I would be very happy if the Garmin watch could count the lanes correctly (don‘t want to use the Apple watch as a sport watch because the Garmin is much more advanced for sports).
I really couldn‘t understand why the watch counts 2 lanes without a change in the movement. Just technically it couldn‘t be that hard to recognize a movement on one axis and get the change of the movement in the opposite direction on the same axis.
Would be very happy for some tips.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings,
