Bluetooth unpairing every few days

Anyone else having issues maintaining the bluetooth connection? Every few days, I get a pairing request on my phone requiring me to enter in the 6-digit code showing on the watch.

I'm using a Pixel 4a 5g with the latest android version though the problem has persisted for a couple months. I've even switched to the alternative bluetooth stack from the developer options ("gabeldorsche," I believe) with no improvement.

I've had the watch for almost 3 years without issue so I'm hopeful that it isn't a spontaneous hardware failure.

  • Since it doesn't appear this is a widespread issue, I completely reset the watch yesterday (sidenote: reconfiguring all of those screens is not fun). It's been about 24 hours and there have been no further bluetooth issues. If that changes, hopefully my frustration reminds me to post an update.

I was also having an issue with a delay starting/stopping activities of about a second (eg, I'd press stop at 30:00 and it'd save as 30:01). I had tried deleting activities to free up space with no success. The full reset troubleshooting the bluetooth issues appears to also have solved the start/stop delay.

  • Well, it unpaired today immediately after syncing an activity. Back to the drawing board.

  • Because I can tell everyone's holding their breath for an update, I reset all of my network settings (wifi, bluetooth, even esim) 4 days ago and it's been working fine since. In case anyone else wants to spend their time troubleshooting, it was Settings -> Reset options -> Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & bluetooth. My esim got messed up in the process so I ended up resetting that, too. Pixel 4a 5g, Android 12 (was sporting June update, now have July's).

  • I'm having a similar issue, and here's another wrinkle:
I reset my watch and it went through the usual "Incorrect PIN" stuff, cutting me off before I could even finish putting in the code. I think I got it in once because after giving up one evening, IT WAS PAIRED the next morning! And then showed not-connected that afternoon.

This intermittent connection thing is quite annoying (and unsafe, as I can't use the emergency feature on the watch reliably when out on a ride). I keep resetting things and it takes too many tries for the watch to pair (if it does at all) and once it does, it still will connect and disconnect randomly.

I'm starting to think this is a Garmin problem because I have no problems with my 935, Vader, or 55.

BTW, Pixel 6 with Android 12

  • I've had a few bluetooth issues also where I had to remove the 945 totally & add it back again on the phone.. Seems to be reasonably stable for the last few weeks now. Also a Pixel 6 with Android 12 so maybe some incompatibility there/
