Garmin Forerunner 945 open water swim GPS track messed up - why and how to fix?

Hi all !

This is my latest open water leg recored on Forerunner 945 in multisport mode ( triathlon ) . Instead of recording smooth and fluid line , the watch recorded zigzag , crooked , broken line that has nothing to do with my real swimming route.

Any idea for the root cause and fixation?

Yes, that's a feature. for some reason open water swim in multisport activities…

It's been a 'thing' with the Multisport swim leg for a wee while. Seems to record the track as if Running. However, despite the ugly track how was the distance? Generally I've found that to be ok.…

If you can, ask then if they recorded the swim leg separately, ie not part of…

Your settings. Your swimming style. Etc.
Look that it's GPS+(Galileo/Glonass), check that you have 1s recording, not the smart, to mention first.

Today swimming and was pretty surprised how spot on it was on compared to the buoys.

Yes, that's a feature. for some reason open water swim in multisport activities is like that.

It's been a 'thing' with the Multisport swim leg for a wee while. Seems to record the track as if Running. However, despite the ugly track how was the distance? Generally I've found that to be ok.

Thanks for insights. I used GPS + Glonass by default . Will try 1s recording next time. However I see that some guys from the same race had smooth recordings of the swim leg on Garnin Fininx 6 pro and on FR 945 as well.

Moreover my watch started to reboot after I got out of the water and pressed lap button to switch to transition.... Race recordings messed up as a result + time lost. What a shame !

Seems that the distance recoded is ok.

If you can, ask then if they recorded the swim leg separately, ie not part of a triathlon/multisport activity. Haven't tried this with my Epix/F7 but the ragged swim track in a Multisport activity is a 'thing' with the F6 and 945.

I'm having the same problem with a Garmin Marq on triathlon setting. The recorded swim distance was shorter than actual and the transitions also not logged properly.

Suggest you post in the Marq forum. I've rarely had a good result swimming with my Marq either separately or as part of a Multisport event.
