Garmin half marathon coach not scheduling long runs

I’m many weeks into a half Mara program with Greg, and love it, except the long runs I have scheduled for sundays are only ever coming up as easy runs of 45 min. I’m ignoring it and going for longer, but I didn’t want to coach myself particularly. Anyone know how to reset this to start scheduling long runs?

  • Second guessing any coach always causes confusion. You're doing longer runs than scheduled will cause the program to react as it is doing. It's an adaptive plan so will adapt. Either do the plan or do something else but trying to do the plan and your own thing because you think the plan is wrong is the worst of both worlds.

  • I'm just in my 1st week of the Greg's Half Mara plan, and already it is scheduling me with a 90 min long run (30 mins of that optional).

You may want to check the Garmin Coach settings as for typical weekly distance. Also, make sure you rate your effort at the end of each workout. And perhaps just check that this isn't a recovery week where they wind things back a bit.

I share philip's caution at second guessing a coach.

  • Yeah, normally I’d agree with you about not second guessing. The training plan did start with some long runs and then I adjusted the date of the race. Now I’m five weeks out though and a 45 min long run, which is all it’s been for weeks now, and which I’ve been trusting, just isn’t going to get me there! Some of the runs mid week are longer. But only an hour.
