Reverse Mode GPX faulty

Hello

I used my watch for a hiking activity today, with a GPX uploaded file from the Connect Android Application.

Clockwise, the trace is perfectly accurate. However, selecting "Do course in Reverse", the GPX trace becomes unusable : this is a very limited sample of points on the map (like my GPX would contain 1% of the points). Is this a known bug ?

Video with demonstration is here : https://photos.app.goo.gl/S3T3s3wjgdxnRJRB6 where you can see on the first attempt the correct GPX clockwise, and second attempt, the broken GPX anti-clockwise.

Running on ForeRunner 945 with latest stable firmware available 9.60.

Thanks

Regards

  • Yes. It is how it works. It will route you in straight lines between each point.

It works so bad so if I must do a course in reverse (and haven't prepared it) I start the course normally and then just follow the line in reverse. You will not get any guidance since you are running in the wrong direction.

It is best to reverse the course in advance in Garmin Connect. Duplicate the course and then reverse it and save.

  • Thanks for your answer. Your advice is good, but you loose the  benefit of climb pro and the watch keep beeping "off route!"

This is a little bit stupid this could not be parsed in the other way around.

To reverse the gpx, you use the Garmin connect website? (I could not find any relevant option in the Garmin android app)

  • Yes. You will lose all the guidance and that is why you should only do it if you really must. It still works a lot better than using the reverse mode in the watch.

You can reverse the route in both the app and the web. In the app you edit the course, click the 3 dots menu and select "Reverse Direction".

  • I ran into exactly the same issue when trying to do the course in reverse on Fenix 7. It was completely unusable. I was off-course almost entire time and the course drawn in straight lines on top of the map made it difficult to see the actual trails on the map.

  • You can reverse the route in both the app and the web. In the app you edit the course, click the 3 dots menu and select "Reverse Direction".

It is interesting that an option to reverse direction is available only if the course was originally created in Garmin Connect. I've just tried that with a course that I synced from Strava. Even if I duplicate the course first the option to reverse the direction isn't available.

  • Yes. I've tested that now and see it as well. Strava routes can't be reversed in the app. You can reverse all routes in the web.

If you want to use the web browser on the phone to do it you need to switch to desktop mode.
