Battery life.

Hi all.

Looking to upgrade my Garmin 920xt to a 945. Are there still issues with the battery life? What are you getting from yours at the moment?
Thanks

  • I charge mine fairly frequently, have a cable from amazon constantly laying on my office desk.  But I had a full charge yesterday noon maybe... have the blood oxy off, did a 70min treadmill workout last night and an hour outdoor run this morning.   Just looked it was at 81%
(not streaming music from watch on either run, uses a good bit of battery).

**6hr 45min last I tried with music streaming was about max battery life on a 103mi bike ride I did in 2020, finished up on battery fumes.  Likely didn't start at 100% though.  Turned off the music at mile ~80-85mi when got "Low Battery" alert... OOH!!

  • Battery life is not too bad... but not even close to what Garmin claims.

  • Thanks for the replies.

I guess my main question is, would it last for an  Ironman cut off time of 17 hours using heart rate strap, cadence sensor and GPS?

  • The answer, of course, is it depends.  Assuming the watch is new, and you're not connected to a phone during that time over Bluetooth, it should last that amount of time.

My watch was 2 years old when I ran an Ultra marathon with HRM and Stryd connected via ANT+, Bluetooth turned off (no phone nearby), navigation ON but rarely checked the map screen, and I made it to 16.5 hours but it shut down very very soon after I finished.

  • I think it will. I've seen roughly 5% battery drain/hour when the device is new so 20h seems reasonable. Just try to use map screen only when needed and not as the main one

  • i have figure out that with ox enabled my batery drains around 5 days, but ox disabled around 15 days

  • Mine is roughly 2 years old and discharged 19% in about 24 hours. WiFi off. Pulse ox off and just sitting in my desk. I didn’t wear it in this timeframe. Only thing I can think of is that Bluetooth is consuming a lot of battery.

  • Thank you all for your input.

  • Mine is 2 years old, I've run a 100K ultra in 18 hours and there was 37% left at the end of the race.

    Run mode

    OHR on

Sound, light and vibrations on for each lap/km

  • Mine is almost 3 years old. Last week I was doing an adventure race - 16 hours of GPS activities. There was 30% battery left afterwards.
