Failing to transfer data between Garmin 945 & Matrix CXM spin bike

I've recently bought an indoor spin bike, the Matrix CXM. In the product description it lists having ANT+ & Bluetooth, and the console on the bike can display speed/cadence/power. It is states it's Zwift compatible but I'm less fussed about sorting that at the moment.

I'm wanting to ideally get two things by pairing my watch with the bike but I can't get either. Firstly I want the HR from my watch to display on the bike console. Secondly, putting my watch on "bike indoor" mode, I'm wanting to record the stats from my time on the bike inc distance/power/speed.

I have set the bike to enable ANT+ pairing, on my watch I have set it to auto-broadcast HR during exercise. I have added both sensors that the watch found from my bike which were HR and one called Trainer. However, when I start cycling on the bike I can see my watch is transmitting HR but nothing appears on the bikes console, and on the watch i can't see any speed or power readings.

What am I missing? It's driving me mad.

Thanks in advance to an advice.

  • Well that’s unfortunate,

did you try contacting other bikes with viiva?

  • Hi ,

after connecting to the bike via ant + , did you do something with the bike? stayed in manger mode etc, or just went back to the workout screen and everything worked ?

  • Yes, I sorted it. I'm using the NPE cable but the viiivo is also meant to work. What I don't think is possible is to get your power and speed output from the bike on to your watch. However, and what I wanted was to just save all data on to Strava.

You need to ensure your Garmin is set to transmit heart rate. Once that's done, the matrix bike can find the HR sensor from your watch, this needs to be done via the manager view of the bike (done by pressing left and right buttons of the console).

So when cycling now, the bike console will have your HR on with all other metrics. You can now send all this data to a bridging device such as NPE cable or viiivo. The NPE cable needed an iPhone app to set up and do the initial pairing with the matrix bike - I don't have an iPhone but just used my wife's the once for the first time pairing.

Once the bridging device is recieving all data, you then need an app to receive all this data. I got it working and paired with zwift but ultimately didn't like zwift. I've tried all sorts of apps and all were pretty crap apart from Cadence. I did a free trial to test it out and have now paid to use it , something like £12 for a year. Once set up to record all data from the cable, you press a button to start recording, do your ride, then a button to stop, and a button to save and sync straight to Strava. It won't however upload to Garmin connect.

If you still have issues, I am happy to record a video of my setup and share a link to view

  • I would love to see a video or picture of your setup please.

can you please confirm you are using a CXM bike and not a CXP or better?

I tried with viiiiva but there was no way to get the power on Cadence.

  • Sure, give me a few days, will post something on Thursday hopefully. Yes it's the cxm

  • Hi,

if you can record a video that will be awesome !

im trying to get live data (for Zwift), I have the Viiiva hr, don't know why its not working ,

    Thanks!

  • I got it working with zwift on an iPad. I've not got zwift subscription now but will see if I can at least show how I connected to it

  • That will be very helpful!

Zwift has 25 km free per month ,

    Thanks !

  • I returned my Viiiva. I tried all possible combinations but nothing seemed to work.

    I will try with CABLE.

  • Please update if that works ,

    thanks!
