The latest Garmin update still hasn't addressed the Jaybird drop out issues. Customer support said it was still under investigation and there is no solution after almost 2 years. if anyone has the ANT/BLE Version 5.04 file for a Garmin Forerunner 945 (APC version) that would be amazing. I have tried the Fenix one but the watch didn't recognise it.
It's insane that this is still an issue. For a product that markets it's music capability, you would think they would have sorted it out by now, especially when it used to work flawlessly.
When I requested a copy of the ANT/BLE Version 5.04 through Garmin support chat, I was told they can't provide it and ended the chat when I said reports on the forum says it works and I would rather get the file from Garmin than a random website. Not even a goodbye, just ended the chat.
For the record:
- It only drops out during a workout, using a Garmin run or a third party app (Stryd).
- Outside of a workout I can play music with the watch on my right wrist, with the earbuds on the left side, under a cushion, that I'm lying on. Clearly not a range issue considering when I run, the Jaybird controller and watch are on the same side (right).
- It happens in Spotify and Deezer apps.
- Sometimes it works ok for 1-2 months, then it starts randomly disconnects on every run. I can't figure out what makes it happen, or stop happening.
- It disconnects with in the first 3-10 mins of a workout. If you press play on the watch sometimes it reconnects but then will drop out 20 secs or so later. If you leave it, it will sometimes reconnect and play on it it's own. Normally it wont. Eventually, it stops connecting no matter how many times you reconnect the earbuds or the music app.
- Unpairing and re-pairing mid run, wont fix it.
- Connecting before or after a workout makes no difference
- Starting the headphones before or after trying to connect from the watch makes no difference.
- Happens in urban environments or remote back country
- The Jaybirds Tarah Pro are only connected to the watch, they are not paired to a phone and no phone is with me while I run.
- Using a Stryd pod (in ant mode) and/or HRM run and/or HRM dual (in Ant mode) or none of them makes no difference.
- Interestingly, I have had issues with the HRM-Run dropping in the early stages of a run. After which it won't work at all for any run. Eventually some months later I'll try it again, it will be working again. I switched to the HRM Dual in frustration and use it in Ant mode. Never had an issue with it, but I lost run dynamics (hence buying a Stryd. These work arounds are getting expensive when you consider the 945 isn't s cheap watch).
- It has also been an issue for the Jaybird X3 which I don't like running with.
One interesting thing I noticed once, was during a run with constant disconnects, I tried to unpair it and re-pair the Tarah Pro and it made the paring tone, but every second cycle it stuttered twice, like it was getting interference or buffering. It has never done that any other time.
