turn by turn navigation with street names

Hi all, last autumn I've got a replacement for my 945 due to a blackout covered by warranty. Since then I've never used the turn by turn navigation while running; yesterday I was running during a business trip in an unknown place and I've uploaded to my watch a 10k route in the nearby of my hotel. Well, I'm pretty much sure that last time I've used the turn by turn navigation (it was back in 2019 before the covid-age) I also had names of the streets together with the arrow (left or right or straight). This time I was completely missing any information on names, but I only had the direction to follow. Is there some kind of feature I'm missing to enable? I've tried to search for it but unsuccessfully.

thx for any help.

Andrea

  • The road names were not shown on the road lines?  That is what I see when I use it.

Mine only gives me distance to next turn... then when getting close it gives me warning beeps and arrow.  then when at the turn (usually just after it really...) it beeps again with the arrow.   Doesn't display road name on the arrow or anything.

If road names are missing from Navigation/map screen.... could have been zoomed out too far?  maybe Map data needs to be updated or since in new area it hadn't gotten detailed map info (doubtful)?  Looking at mine real quick it defaults to the '200ft' zoom level and I see road names just next to the road line.  Shows sidewalks dashed, wetlands, parks...etc.

  • Hi Nick, thanks for your reply. I can see names on the road lines; what I think I had before, but now I'm not 100% sure anymore, was the name of the next road together with the sound and the arrow..and I'm pretty much sure when I was running in some kind of trail routes, the indication was like "turn right in unknown road" ...I can't have imagined all of that! :-)

  • I've never seen road names during navigation on the watch and I navigate routes pretty much always. It is just arrows and distance.

  • It shows more detailed navigation with road names if you create the route on the watch using the round-trip course option under navigation. If it is just a course uploaded from Garmin Connect it is just the arrows and distance.

  • Thanks! That's exactly what was happening...I was rijninf on London with a course created by the watch itself and I had the names of the streets. Now it's clear.
