945 heartrate does not end up in daily overview any more

Hi,

I have a Forerunner 945 and a Vivosmart 4 - I'm using the former for training, the latter for every day life. However, since a couple of weeks, this does not work smoothly any more - in particular, the heartrate data of the 945 only ends up in Garmin Connect for training (but is still not shown in the daily overview), but not outside training. This is easier to explain with some screen shots:

December 14th: I have only used the 945 for the Swimming activity, the VS4 for the rest of the day. Everything fine.

Another example (Dec 15th): once more I only used the 945 for the running activity, the VS4 for the rest of the day. All fine.

Now, consider Jan 1st: As always, I've used the 945 for the activities (running and strength), but no heart rate for these (the activities themselves do have the heartrate).

Even worse: On Jan 8th, my VS4 ran out of battery, so I decided to gor gor the 945 during the night. The result (only Jan 9th - the heart rate is back asa I use the VS4 again):

The last activity which did not result in such a break was on Dec. 21th (and before I never saw this behavior) - on Dec 22th I saw this for the first time. Note that the activities from Dec. 21th as well as Dec. 22th both claim that Firmware version of the 945 is 8.20, so that's apparently not the cause.

Any idea what's going on here? Why doe the heartrate of the 945 only end up in Garmin Connect for activities (and is only displayed inside these)? Does anybody else see similar problems?

Thanks
Christian

  • I wear the FR945 all time and have the same issue as your 2nd and 3rd graph:
    - heart rate is correctly recorded during activities
    - from time to time, heart rate will be missing in the daily summary during the activity

  • What I've always thought is that in the daily summary you will only see heart rate from the preferred activity tracker.

It is because if you log an activity on an Edge unit with chest heart rate you will not see heart rate in daily summary unless you also wear an activity tracker.

But here you've experienced that you get heart rate from both even if one of them isn't an activity tracker.

The TrueUp function isn't syncing heart rate: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=a2uguZzTQG4I2HTBvHa0gA

  • Maybe it's caused by our name :-)

  • I'm absolutely sure that this is not the case (or at least was not the case before Dec 22th). And it kind of makes sense: If you receive heart rate from one device, but not the other one, then take that heart rate (and in case youe receive heart rate from both devices, you can still take the one from your preferrd tracker).

However, to make this even more clear, I have now deleted my VS4 device (as it apparently has died anyways :-( ). The Garmin Connect app shows the heart rate of my 945 (the current value), but nothing ends up in the daily view or s logged (despite during an activity).

Garmin, please help - this is the most basic functionality of this rather expansive device, and it fails on me!

    Best
    Christian

  • Have you set the 945 as preferred activity tracker?

  • Yes, and it's my only device now. But as I said: Before Dec 22th it worked without the 945 being the preferred tracker.

  • Maybe it's caused by our name :-)

yep, we all know "everybody hates Chris" Stuck out tongue
