Screen Glass is not Clear

My 945 were bought when only first party was issued. Bundle Version. Last Year my Screen glass looks like cheap rubbish watches. Cleaning does not help. please tell who have the same problem? if Garmin replace such items? Real Fan of Garmin. Had F3, F5x, 245, EDGE 530 and had never had such a problem

  • Did you get your 945 directly from Garmin? It looks like there might be a screen protector on it.

  • no screen protector, never used them. was bought originally from Garmin with box and TRI bundle

  • colour began to change after swimming in pool

  • Can’t see anything clearly from this picture. Looks more like the play of light across the watch held at a very flat viewing angle. I’ve swum countless lengths in chlorinated pools and seen no change in the color of my 945. I think that’s a red herring to suggest pool chemicals would affect the glass.

    Perhaps contact Garmin Support

  • I have noticed a similar issue on mine. The screen seems to have many small dots all over the surface, witch reflect light different then the rest of the screen.
Though, I haven't been visiting pool regularly.

  • Correct. i have this dots and cannot clean them. my 945 were purchased Late Summer 2019.

  • This is a typical defect condition of coating, called "peeling" in the Ophthalmic industry.
The glass screen is coated to improve the transmission (reduce reflection) and increase resistance to abrasion.
When the coating partially peel, you can see the bare mineral screen and the difference in light reflection between the coated and uncoated part of the screen is visible..

On the pic from the post below, you can see how a scratch has increase the chance of peeling.

  • This is very probably a case of coating peeling (see my other post).
The lines (on the mid right and bottom left) could be light scratches, and since the coating has been altered, those light scratches are more visible via light reflection.

There is no way to solve the issue other than replacing the screen.
Trying to scrub the screen with chemical will only make the issue worse.

  • That was my initial thoughts, some sort of coating degradation.

Unfortunately for the owners, the screen of the watch in not replaceable.
I asked local Garmin dealer about screen glass repair, they said they don't replace it, they can send it to Garmin to replace whole unit, for around 280 €

Another available option is to buy used screen, that has no such damage to replace, good condition screens are for 80-100 €

That's disappointing because otherwise the watch works flawlessly.

  • Yes, Chris, You have explained this trouble scientifically! Thanks great! I also mentioned there is no more Violet reflection (like my MacBook screen has).
