Heart Rate Not Accurate with Zwift

My Garmin 945 always shows significantly lower heart rate than it really is. Occasionally, it would work accurately, but only for a few minutes in a training session (if at all). How do I fix this?

  • Start an activity - the HR is more accurate (Especially at higher intensities) when recording an activity than it is in 24/7 mode. If you peek under the watch, you can see the sensor going from strobing to being continuously on when you start an activity.

  • I always choose Virtual Run

  • How are you measuring the heart rate? Optical heart rate is known to have issues and are sensitive to watch fit.

Use a chest strap to get the most accurate heart rate data.

  • Are you connecting a HR strap to your phone/laptop in the Zwift App to compare?  Or are you just stating that it is low compared to what you believe it should be?  (ie... doing a strong run (you know it should be 140+ and it says HR=80-90bpm?)  Optical HR is wonky at times... and for some people it is consistently inaccurate (skin color/type, watch fit, wrist size/shape, etc.)

If you are going to track HR and use it for making recovery/training-load choices or input... highly recommend upgrading to a HRM-Dual or Tickr or similar HR Strap.
