How to setup HR target workout

I've tried reviewing all the how to manuals and youtube videos but I can't find a straightforward way to setup a HR target run. My FR 945 is currently set to pace, and I'd like to know what HR zone I am during the workout instead of reviewing the data afterwards. With the recommendations being in HR instead of pace as well. I'm trying to work through some health problems so I want it to talk to me about my HR instead of how I'm under or over my pace. I feel like that should be possible?

  • It's possible for daily suggestions for sure, recently found it which is way better for my hilly terrain. When you have a daily suggestion, I think you need to scroll down or get to many somehow and you can change pace to HR

  • When you are looking at the 'suggested workout" when you click the upper right button to select it, go down two settings to 'Target Type' and change it to "Heart Rate"

For custom workouts on Garmin connect you can create workouts and set the Target Type to 'Custom Heart Rate' or Heart Rate zone.

Alternatively you can just set an alert for high heart rate if you goal is to maintain an easy HR range... set it to an alert at 80 or 75% of your max or something like that.

Also make sure you customize data screens on watch that has a few fields like Current HR, Lap HR , lap time.... then you can just do custom laps by hitting lap button.
