Swimming distance not recording right after charging the watch

Since last week I have a strange issue when pool swimming with Forerunner 945. When I charge the watch during the night and then go for a swim in the morning, the watch doesn't measure distance. When I restart the watch everything starts working smoothly. It kind of seems as if the accelerometer wasn't working after taking the watch off the charger.  I noticed this behaviour about a week ago, didn't have any issues before. I have this watch for about 2 years now, using software version 8.20, sensor hub 14.05.  Did anybody have similar experience? I am not sure if it is related to recent firmware update or is my watch slowly dying on me?

    I haven’t noticed any swim issues since the update, but I may never have gone swimming as my first activity off the charger. I’ll try to remember to charge right before my swim tomorrow.

    I charged my watch then swam a workout with no issues.

    Just had this issue yesterday - charged watch and swam but nothing recorded. Stopped watch and re started and still nothing. I erased all my workouts thinking it might be an issue with space and will try again.  I hope it works.

    I have the same issue on my Fenix 6 happened multiple times already. Like yours, everything is back to normal after restarting.

    Steps data is still being collected. So I guess accelerometer is still working?

    The only work around I can think of is to restart my watch after each time I charge it.

    Same here, and still today with new firmware... stopped after warm-up (it wasn't measuring distance), turn down the watch, then on... then it worked for the rest of the session. I'll have to remember to re-start my watch before every swim (just to be on the safe side). Pain in the ass that is still not solved on current firmware version :-( !

    Just got my Forerunner 945 LTE in January and have used it multiple times per week for lap swimming with no issues. The last two times, the only thing that recorded correctly was the time. No stroke data, no lap data, and the heart rate data was way off. I'll try cycling the power the next time I head to the pool to see if that resolves anything. Software version is 4.16. Of course, it does miss a few laps when I don't push off the wall very hard.

    Had the same issue today - just updated to the latest firmware 2 days ago. Pool swim recorded time but nothing else - distance remained zero. Anyone had any luck with a fix for this?

    same here, on my Forerunner 945. This watch auto-updated but is only on 8.2. I wonder if I should get on the 9.56 Beta.

    I have a brand new 945. First swim it worked perfectly. Tonight it just recorded the time. No laps. Same pool. Same pace.

    I used my 945 in the pool for the first time today - just heart rate and time - no laps or pace.

    I have contacted Garmin in Australia. They have provided trouble shooting as follows:

    If the issue continues, Can we please get you to reply back to this email with the following details: 

    •             Copy of the proof of purchase  (Please ensure this is itemized purchase listing and displays the company ABN)

    •             Clear images of the front and back of the device including the serial number

    •             Clear images of the charging cable pins

    •             Clear image/short video of the issue you have described
