945 stops recording workout and drops out to watch face.

Facing an issue with my 945. Whilst running a garmin coach workout the watch starts fine but frequently after about 400m the watch drops out of the workout and displays the watch face. If I notice and press to enter the run menu then the watch goes straight back to the workout, re-establishes GPS and continues where it left off without losing much data. If I don't notice then it will lose data until the next time I check my time and hit to enter run menu. It retains all the data before the 'crash' but there will be a missing chunk until I manually re-enter the run menu. Strange thing is that it happens at the same spot on my regular route, so must be time/distance related perhaps? Any ideas how to resolve?

Yeah, this means that there's probably something very specific that triggers the crash/reboot. Like for example vibrations on lap or workout step, as I've seen several reports on this forums on watches crashing when trying to vibrate.

Try a master reset. If this does not help then try getting rid of any CIQ data fiels, if you use any. And if this does not help either, then contact garmin support, as the watch might be broken, and in need of replacement.

  • Thanks for the advice, I just factory reset the watch. The online ciq app I had installed was Spotify and no data fields, but I removed Spotify nonetheless. Fingers crossed the reset solves the issue. Thanks again for the advice :)
