Screen damaged Forerunner 945

The screen on my 945 is cracked following a collision whilst running. Garmin offer a replacement (a reconditioned device) with a 90 day warranty for £130. A private insurer will effect a repair for a £40 excess fee but  it will not be Garmin carrying out the repair. They will only guarantee water resistant to 50 meters and would not commit to replacement in the event of water damage, stating that such decisions can only be made subsequent to the event.

Does anybody have experience of private insurers fixing multisport watches?

Thanks.

  • So the private insurer doesn't let you get estimate of the cost of repairing it from the manufacturer and repair it with them and they would pay the difference from the cost of repair and excess fee? Sounds stupid.

Kind of hard to say any experience or anything as we don't even know who will fix it and with replacement parts etc.

  • Nope sorry bro, how'd ya crack it?

  • I ran into lamp post whilst looking over my shoulder to cross the road. It was only a gentle bump, however the glass screen is slightly elevated. The edge crumbled and a faint crack appeared across the face. I'm not sure how this device would fare in the event of a proper tumble on a trail. I love the device but it has revealed itself to be rather fragile.

  • Thanks. I think I'll go with Garmin and accept a reconditioned device to be on the safe side.
