after 8.2 update - no strokes counted

Hi,

I got the update notification today a few minutes before starting swim session today (25m lane).  No strokes were counted. I restarted the watch and tried 4 times without any result.

Last swimming was Wednesday this week and everything was ok.

Is it a known issue or are there any new settings necessary?

Thanks

Thomas

  • I had problems with my swim workout yesterday. My workout was programmed correctly, but my watch didn’t seem to think I was swimming the first two sets (500 yards each). It didn’t count down the yards, and it seemed to think my second 500 should be 547 yards. On the third set, it acted like it was tracking my 5x100 intervals, and it counted down the rest time, but it never actually recorded them.  It did seem to record my last 500 yard set. I wasn’t paying attention to the new software update. I’ll do a hard reset today and see what happens to my swim tomorrow.

  • I was also abruptly surprised on this morning's swim when my 945 was not counting any laps since the 8.2 update. Last swim was 3 days ago with no issues using software 7.8. I also tried multiple restarts with no resolution. Hoping Garmin has a fix soon.

  • Similar problem for me. Did a indoor rowing exercise yesterday and did not see any stroke/cadence data (I usually do).

  • FWIW, I took my upgraded FR for s swim today and did not notice any issues with stroke counting. Works fine.

  • I tried but failed to update my post above. After taking a closer look, I realized I hadn’t updated my watch - so it must have been a different problem. After updating my watch, I’ve had two or three swims without any issue.

  • Problem solved together with garmin support this morning. Master reset was necessary.

So be careful. You have to setup the watch from scratch.

  • I can confirm the lap counting function for swimming has returned after a factory reset which I was hoping to avoid. It is annoying having to configure everything back from scratch. Luckily, I had saved my settings, records, totals, and sports profiles to help shorten the setup.

  • I have the same issue . I totally agree that is ridiculous to perform a factory reset for this issue. Garmin must release a service pack to resolve the problem. How do you save the settings totals etc ?  Reset default setting ?

  • Certain circumstances may arise when you will want to save the settings, locations and device totals from your Garmin watch. Scenarios where this might occur include the following:

    • Prior to performing a Master Reset on watch - all settings and profiles will revert back to factory default settings and device totals will be erased
    • To reload settings and data on a replacement or exchanged device
    • To back up files as desired

When the watch is connected to the computer, it will create a drive in (My) Computer or This PC [PC] or on the desktop [Mac]. By selecting the drive, a number of folders within the Garmin folder will appear. These folders represent the following information:

    • LOCATION- contains Locations.fit file that stores saved locations
    • RECORDS- contains Records.fit file that stores personal records you have achieved
    • SETTINGS – contains Settings.fit file which stores user profile and certain device settings
    • SPORTS – contains each activity app as a separate file
    • TOTALS – contains Totals.fit file which stores device totals for time and distance

    Backing Up Device Information

IMPORTANT Garmin Music capable watches use MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode. MTP watches will not display as a drive on Mac computers. Physio TrueUp is able to sync totals and records to your watch through Garmin Connect App. Settings and sports can also be synced through Garmin Connect App. For more information, see - What is Physio TrueUp?

    1. Plug watch into computer via USB cable
    2. Open Garmin Drive from (My) Computer or This PC on PC or desktop on Mac
    3. Select Garmin folder
    4. Select LOCATIONS folder
    5. Right-click on Locations.fit file
    6. Select Copy
    7. Paste file on desktop or other easily found location
    8. Follow steps 4 - 7 with for all other folders mentioned above

For steps on restoring your backed up files, select the heading below.

    Reinstalling Backed Up Files

    1. Plug the watch into computer via USB cable
    2. Go to backed up file location on computer
    3. Press and hold Control (CTRL) key on keyboard
    4. Select each file (still holding CTRL key) until all files are selected
    5. Release CTRL key
    6. Open Garmin drive from Computer page or desktop (Mac)
    7. Open Garmin Folder
    8. Right-click on NewFiles folder
    9. Paste files into folder

The New Files folder will automatically put the files into the correct folders once the watch is disconnected and powered on. The backed up data will now show on the watch.
