GPS issue (kilometers every second makes me the fastest runner alive)

Hi,

I'm really happy with my 945, but recently, it started considering I'm the fastest person alive.

Let me explain : I start a training, let the GPS fix, wait 30 seconds more (we never know) and after 5 to 10 minutes, the watch starts indicating a new kilometer almost every second.

The behaviour is happening quite often recently and as you can see in the screenshot, the GPS is quite accurate and we can see the correct third km, but then the 4th, 5th and 6th.

Of course, i can correct the training afterwards on the website, but I don't understand why this glitch is there.

I'm on 8.09, with GPS+Galileo (actually GPS+Glonass doesn't improve) and autolap (1Km).

Am I the only one to have this issue ?

Thanks !

  • Hello, since I installed 8.09 version (and linked GPS latest firmware) on my 945 I started to have HUGE issues with GPS precision despite GPS+GALILEO was advertised as the most accurate option on the market. So if we add this issue to the incredible issue related to the 945's sticky buttons ... I can say I'm not happy for my device at all and after many years I start to evaluate to switch to COROS.

  • 8.09 is still in beta so that might be the reason. I'm still on 7.80 and using GPS+GLONASS and has not experienced any issues with the GPS precision. I run, bike or walk with GPS every day. Some days it can take a bit longer time to get a GPS lock. Maybe 2 minutes, but usually it is under 1 minute.

  • There's also the issue of the amount of elevation gain. I suspect there's more to this than the meets the eye. You need to report this directly as instructed in the beta download instructions

For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected].

Not sure that's the case. However, happy to be proved wrong if you can show where Garmin have stated that. As noted, if you are having issues with beta software you need to report them directly to the as instructed.

Installing beta system is your choice. If you don't like it you can revert back to the latest publicly released version by following the instructions in the download folder.

  • sorry I get confused and wrote 8.09 wrongly. I have installed 7.80 on my 945's device

  • You could try removing all your activity files off the watch and save them to a computer somewhere. They’re not needed once you’ve synced everything. That way you’ll remove the possibility of a corrupt file. Once you’ve taken them off try a hard reset - long press of top left until shutdown then restart. If that hasn’t worked try a reset to default removing all data or open a conversation with Garmin Support.

  • During my last race, a marathon in Ravenna, my garmin forerunner 945 lost GPS (GPS+GLONASS) signal after 25Km. Then it continued to work with internal accelerometer (I suppose, because I had pace and distance info), then it acquired signal again for few seconds at 31Km and then it lost signal again.

So I run my last 17Km without signal.

I analyzed .FIT file and there aren't  gps datas from 25Km except for a few points ad 31Km.

Do you know if there is a bug that disable gps if it loose signal for a lot of time (20-30 minutes)?

There is not. However, if auto pause is enabled it is possible that once the signal is lost for whatever reason re-connecting might be problematic due to the difficulty in connecting to satellites when moving.
