945 battery drain from 100% charge to 30% overnight

The battery retaining ability got really worse with My Forerunner 945.

it wasn’t like this just a year ago or even 7-8 months ago.

I used to run 50 miles per week without having to charge 945 even once in between.

but now it shuts down even for a 10 miler when it has 27% battery.

Garmin should provide us with details at least about what’s makes the battery drain while the watch isn’t used.

I tried several attempts - but 100% charged before bedtime and woke up to see 30% battery is the last straw.

is there any solution to this?

I have switched to only GPS, no music, no heart rate when idle - have been using it with bare minimum function.

Apple Watch really isn’t my choice but Garmin isn’t improving battery life any better.

  • Is pulseox disabled? With the 8.02 beta it gets turned on sometimes and result chews through battery.

Otherwise a hard restart (press light until watch restarts) or actual factory reset (last resort) would be the next options

  • If you use a Garmin inReach Mini, battery drain on the 945 is a problem. I've had my 945 paired with a Garmin inReach Mini and the battery drains rapidly after the inReach is turned off. I have to power the watch on and off to prevent the rapid battery drain.

  • Check for updates in Garmin Express. Updates over bluetooth can take some time and will likely use extra battery.

Otherwise just follow the advices from

  • Yes it is. I did factory reset too. Its still the same or even worse. Within few minutes of turning ON, it loses connectivity with earphones. I am left with no option

  • Thank you but I do not use it.

  • Mine started draining completely overnight and no software fix was working, so I ended up just calling support.  They were really helpful and sent a replacement unit.  Support is probably one of the biggest strengths of Garmin.

Since getting the replacement watch, things are back to normal.  It's hard to say what could lead to excessive power drain, but there are a fair number of cases that have seemed to be reported of similar behavior since launch.

Anyways, I would just recommend contacting support, because it's not supposed to behave that way.
