Feedback Thread - Forerunner 945 Beta software version 8.09

So I thought I'd start this thread with feedfback on the new beta just released... I just installed it myself so can't comment yet, but did write down the version changes for now:

Updated:

Software 8.02 -> 8.09
GPS 5.30 -> 5.40
CIQ 3.2.6 -> 3.2.8
BMX 4.0.3 -> 5.0.4
WHR 4.00.03 -> 5.00.04
HUB 9.01 -> 14.05

Unchanged:

WIFI 2.60
ANT 6.11

  • Issue with "after-sunset" backlight remains. Should come on after lifting/rotating arm to view watch, still comes on frequently without lifting/viewing, during normal running arm motion.

  • Not everyone plays soccer in the big league. Loads of recreational athletes already use smart watches, with not so accurate sensors, to record their steps and hr during a match. Garmin would sell loads more watches if they supported soccer properly.

    Not everyone plays soccer in the big league.

    Maybe a neighborhood pick up match, but I'm not aware of a single league regardless of age or skill level that allows watches to be worn during play because it's a safety issue that can cause injury to players.  I also don't think it would be very practical to wear a footpod while playing soccer like you suggested earlier.  Even if you were fortunate enough and not lose the footpod, it would likely be damaged during play.  What metrics would be useful during a soccer match with a running or footpod anyway?  I'm not aware of any that records kicks or jumps.

  • If you want steps and HR, use a HRM Pro like I suggested.

  • Might as well use an hrm pro for all activities then, why create a tennis profile? or a treadmill profile? or a strength profile? etc.

    I agree with you. These watches need maybe 5 different activity apps since data fields can be added to any of them.  I think these companies just want to say, "look how many activity choices we have", and user's want something that's labeled with any sport they might do.  Every activity app currently on these watches can be duplicated using the "Other" app.  They just need a setting that allows VO2 Max measurements and power meter support when someone wants to run or cycle. 1000 different cycling activities now when only 1 is needed.

  • user's want something that's labeled with any sport they might do.

    This is the real reason. Garmin and others respond eventually to user requests. The end result being bloatware that means something to tiny minorities without adding anything of value to the majority.

  • I confirm that it isn't resolved in this version. Problem remains, which is very frustrating to me as it is getting darker earlier every evening. At this moment I disabled backlight and I look at my pace only at the lap alerts. I hope that this will be fixed soon, because I really rely on pace readings during my runs.

  • Mine just stays on during the activity if it’s before dawn. Sure this isn’t a feature, and not a bug?
